Why This Matters

Most retail traders fail not due to a flawed strategy, but because they apply the right strategy to the wrong market phase (accumulation, distribution, or continuation).

For SMC / ICT Traders: Reading Accumulation & Distribution

SMC and ICT methodologies are based on the premise that institutional order flow leaves identifiable patterns: order blocks, fair value gaps, breaker blocks, and liquidity sweeps. However, the crucial aspect often overlooked in SMC/ICT education is timing - knowing when these patterns are likely to play out.

The Regression Score (RegScore) fills this gap.

When RegScore reaches +100, it indicates that price has moved upward in a statistically perfect straight line over the lookback period, with a confident regression fit (R² ≥ 0.60). In SMC terms, this often signifies the tail end of an accumulation phase or a liquidity-engineered rally. Such a 'clean' move on a specific timeframe frequently precedes a reversal or retracement to a higher-timeframe order block.

Similarly, when RegScore hits -100, the same logic applies to downward price movements, often indicating distribution completion or accumulation initiation. This is the time to search for accumulation or distribution footprints.

How to use it with your price-action toolkit:

Avoid using +100 or -100 RegScore as an entry signal; instead, consider it a heads-up.

When RegScore hits +100 while Hurst is below 0.45 (mean-reverting regime), it suggests the premium array is overextended. Look left for a bearish order block or breaker to initiate a short position.

When RegScore reaches -100 with Hurst below 0.45, seek a bullish order block in the discount array for a potential long entry.

If Hurst is above 0.55 (trending regime) and RegScore is +100, it indicates a trend with conviction. Avoid fading it; instead, wait for a pullback to a bullish order block in the premium array to join the trend.

Component 1: Hurst Exponent

The Hurst Exponent, calculated using the Rescaled Range (R/S) method on log returns, produces a value between 0 and 1, indicating market memory:

H > 0.55: The market exhibits positive memory. If price moved up, it's likely to continue rising. Breakout strategies, order-block continuation trades, and trend-following fair-value-gap entries are suitable here.

H ≈ 0.50: The market is in a random walk, with no statistical edge. Stay flat, even if your order block looks perfect, as the math suggests no directional bias.

Note: On the panel and indicator window, these values are displayed as 55, 45, and 50 (multiplied by 100).

Component 2: ADX

The Average Directional Index (ADX) measures trend strength, not direction, by smoothing the expansion of the +DI and -DI lines:

ADX < 20-25: The market is inactive, lacking trend strength. Avoid entries, even with clean order blocks, as underlying energy is absent.

ADX 25-50: Trend strength is building, creating the ideal conditions for most price-action setups. Institutional flow is directional, increasing the likelihood of order blocks and fair value gaps resolving.

ADX > 50: The move is climactic, often indicating the manipulation phase in SMC/ICT terms, where Smart Money is transitioning between accumulation/distribution phases. ADX confirms commitment, ensuring the order block you're monitoring is backed by real volume and intent, not retail noise.

Component 3: Linear Regression with R²

Linear regression fits a straight line to recent closing prices, yielding two key parameters:

Slope: The direction of the line.

R² (Coefficient of Determination): How closely prices adhere to the line.

RegScore interprets this as a directional confidence score:

+100: Strong positive slope with a high-confidence fit (R² ≥ 0.60). Price is moving up in a disciplined manner, suggesting an impending bearish reversal.

-100: Strong negative slope with a high-confidence fit. Price is moving down consistently, indicating an upcoming bullish reversal.

0: No confidence. The price action is too choppy for a reliable regression fit.

For SMC/ICT traders, a +100 RegScore on a lower timeframe, when compared to a higher-timeframe premium array, implies the engineered move is complete, and it's time to seek distribution footprints. Conversely, a -100 RegScore in the discount array suggests statistical exhaustion, prompting a search for accumulation footprints like a bullish order block or a sweep of a key low.
