As an intraday trader, accurate predictions of price movements within a day are crucial. Incorrect forecasts can lead to significant losses, even with robust money or risk management systems. To address this challenge, I developed a simple indicator that places a horizontal level on the chart, which I call the 'Attention Level'.
Here's how it works:
- I calculate the 10-day value of the ATR indicator on a daily interval.
- If the previous day's symbol showed growth, I subtract the ATR value from its maximum price. If the day was falling, I add the ATR value to its minimum price.
- Then, I draw a horizontal level through one of these values.
When trading an uptrend, if the price falls below the attention level, it's a clear sign that the market conditions have changed. In such cases, I cease all trade operations to avoid buying into a potentially reversed trend or its correction period.
This strategy has proven effective in saving money on stop orders that might have been triggered without this indicator.
Fig.1 and Fig.2 illustrate the daily and H1 charts of the RTS index futures contract with the attention level.
The code utilizes the clist and cobjecthline classes from the standard library for efficient graphical object creation and management.
Tips:
- If you predicted an uptrend and the price reverses below the attention level, stop trading, revise your plan, and refrain from buying.
- For a predicted downtrend, if the price crosses the attention level upwards, halt trading, reassess your strategy, and avoid further selling.
Indicator Settings:
- atr_maperiod: Averaging period of ATR indicator (default: 10 days).
- levelcolor: Level line color (default: red).
- levelstyle: Level line style (default: solid).
- levelwidth: Level line thickness (default: 1).
