Tick Emulation for Accelerated Testing of Indicators
Info
The Tick Emulation for Accelerated Testing of Indicators is a Script for MetaTrader 4 that the script facilitates the configuration of two shift parameters and the volume of computed data for an indicator, ea, or another script through global variables. It also enables automated iteration over the data range from the initially set bar to the zero bar with a delay.
Usage
This tool is typically used for enhancing chart analysis and decision making.
Platform
This Script works exclusively on MetaTrader 4 (both build 600+ and newer versions).
Setup
Place the downloaded file in MQL4/Scripts folder via File ? Open Data Folder in MetaTrader 4.
How to Install and Use Tick Emulation for Accelerated Testing of Indicators
1. Installation: Move your script file into the MQL/Scripts directory and restart the platform.
2. Execution: Drag the script onto a chart; it will perform a one-time action, such as closing all open orders or clearing chart objects.
3. Editing: Use MetaEditor (F4) to modify code, click "Compile," and verify no errors appear in the terminal before running.
4. Removing: Scripts stop automatically, but you can remove them manually by right-clicking the chart and choosing "Remove Script."
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I assign a hotkey to a script? A: Yes, right-click the script in the Navigator, select "Set Hotkey," and define your preferred keyboard shortcut.
Q: Why did my script stop? A: Scripts are designed to stop immediately after finishing their programmed command; this is normal behavior.

An instance of a linear regression indicator is provided, along with the accompanying script. The script's code includes an example of incorporating the indicator.
The indicator can execute calculations independently or in conjunction with the script. When used with the script, the parameters required for indicator computation (shift and the number of calculated data) are stored in global variables (ce_time and ce_count, respectively).
The script offers manual and automatic management modes for the indicator. Manual mode (set shift) allows positioning the linear regression object with the mouse, while automatic mode (set shift) positions the object by setting new coordinates with a shift of -1. The global variable _emulated governs the management mode: _emulated=0 for manual and _emulated=1 for automatic. The global variable's value can be set using the 'F3' global variables or by removing the 'auto emulate' or 'manual emulate' text labels, which toggles the value.
Upon reaching the zero bar in automatic mode, the script transitions to manual control mode. The global variable _pausecount sets the delay for the subsequent indicator run, and _calculated indicates the indicator's readiness for the next calculation. Once the calculation is complete, the indicator sets the flag _cw_xxxxx=true. The _cw_xxxxx global variable is created during indicator initialization and is unique for each indicator added to any chart with its own timeframe. The indicator automatically recalculates data when the shift changes in the ce_time global variable.
If the linear regression object extends beyond the chart screen, the script automatically adjusts the chart to display the new selected range. The script concludes its operation by deleting all linear regression objects and requesting confirmation for unloading. The initial concept is credited to Oleg Poddubny and his script mover.mq4.
The figures below illustrate the script's usage on different periods, showcasing the addition of an indicator on the Н4 period managed by the script on the Н1 period, the alignment of shift locations on different periods, and the methods to switch between manual and automatic tick emulation modes.
