Description & Settings
Related: Customizable Moving Average Indicator with Multiple Smoothing Methods - another powerful indicator for MetaTrader 5 traders.
Kairi Method (KRI) is an oscillator that operates similarly to other oscillators in its application mode. It fluctuates around the 0 line with a wider fluctuation range. A recommended smoothing period is 13, and KRI can be applied to any timeframe, making it one of the simpler oscillators available.Also recommended: Sidus Method Trading Strategy - similar indicator with strong performance on MetaTrader 5.
The indicator calculates the deviation of the price from its smoothed value and presents this deviation as a percentage of the average.
Indicator Calculation Formula:
where:
price[bar] - the current price.
sma() - the smoothing algorithm.
period - the smoothing period for the sma().
bar - the bar index.
When prices lack a clear trend, a significantly positive KRI value suggests an overbought condition and signals a potential short position entry. Conversely, a significantly negative value serves as a buy signal.
In the presence of a defined trend, KRI will tend to show stable positive values during a downtrend due to the lag between the moving average and the current price. Similarly, it will generate stable negative values during an uptrend. Therefore, if the KRI values remain consistently positive or negative for an extended period without switching, it can be utilized as a trend indicator.
Trading signals are generated when the indicator values cross above +1 (overbought area) or below -1 (oversold area) and subsequently reverse back towards the middle. An additional signal confirmation can be a bullish divergence or a bearish convergence between the indicator and the price.
This indicator utilizes the Cmoving_average class from the smoothalgorithms.mqh library. The utilization of this class was detailed in a previous article.
