Cycle Period Measurement Indicator
Info
The Cycle Period Measurement Indicator is a Indicator for MetaTrader 5 that this indicator measures the periodicity of financial asset price changes. It stores current market cycle values in its indicator buffer, acknowledging that these values are inherently unstable.
Usage
This tool is typically used for enhancing chart analysis and decision making.
Platform
This Indicator works exclusively on MetaTrader 5 (both build 600+ and newer versions).
Setup
Place the downloaded file in MQL5/Indicators folder via File ? Open Data Folder in MetaTrader 5.
How to Install and Use Cycle Period Measurement Indicator
1. Installation: Place your file in the MQL/Indicators folder via "Open Data Folder" and restart your terminal.
2. Loading: Find the indicator in the Navigator, drag it onto your chart, and configure the input parameters in the popup window.
3. Customization: Press Ctrl+I to open the indicator list, select your tool, and click "Properties" to change colors, levels, or visual styles.
4. Updating: Replace the old file in the Indicators folder with the new version and restart the platform to apply changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is my indicator not showing? A: Verify the file is in the MQL/Indicators folder, or try right-clicking the "Indicators" tree in the Navigator and clicking "Refresh."
Q: Do custom indicators slow down the platform? A: Too many complex indicators can impact performance; remove unused ones via the "Indicator List" (Ctrl+I).
Q: Can I use MT4 indicators on MT5? A: No, MQL4 and MQL5 are distinct languages; ensure the indicator is compiled specifically for your platform version.

This indicator measures the periodicity of financial asset price changes. Also recommended: time closing period indicator - similar indicator with strong performance on MetaTrader 5.
It stores current market cycle values in its indicator buffer, acknowledging that these values are inherently unstable. The primary use of this indicator is to adapt oscillators to the constantly changing market cycles, transforming them into adaptive indicators.
The concept is inspired by John Ehlers' work, as featured in a November 2002 publication.
Cycle Period Indicator Usage with Other Indicators
To utilize the Cycle Period indicator within other indicator codes, such as the RVI Oscillator, its handle must be declared at the global level.
Subsequently, the Cycle Period indicator handle needs to be obtained within the initialization block of the target indicator (e.g., RVI).
This process allows a new variable, Alpha, which typically serves as an input parameter for averaging ratios, to be transformed into an input variable for the Cycle Period indicator.
The previous `length` input variable should be removed from the input parameters of the target indicator and converted into a local variable within its function.
Array Size Management for Smoothing
The size of arrays used for indicator smoothing is typically determined by a `length` parameter.
However, as this parameter is now dynamic, it is advisable to set the array sizes to accommodate a sufficiently high potential value of this variable.
Observational analysis of indicator charts suggests that this value rarely exceeds 100.
Therefore, setting the array sizes to 100 is a practical approach.
Adaptive Period Calculation
For the current bar, period values should be sourced from the Cycle Period custom indicator buffer instead of the former `length` input parameter.
In this implementation, the last four values from the Cycle Period indicator buffer are used.
A linearly weighted smoothing is applied to these values, and the resulting smoothed value is employed as the smoothing period length.
Finally, the concluding line of the indicator code requires modification to reflect these changes.
Result: Adaptive RVI Oscillator
The integration and modification process results in an adaptive RVI Oscillator.
