the acceleration/deceleration technical indicator (ac) measures this acceleration and deceleration of the current driving force. it changes direction before any changes in the driving force, which in turn changes before the price. this early warning signal provides a significant advantage for traders.
the zero line represents the equilibrium between the driving force and acceleration. when the indicator is above zero, it's easier for the acceleration to continue an upward movement, and vice versa when it's below zero. unlike the awesome oscillator, crossing the zero line is not a signal. instead, traders should focus on color changes.
traders should avoid buying when the current column is red and selling when it's green. when entering the market in the direction of the driving force, only two green columns are needed to buy, and two red columns to sell. however, if the driving force opposes the intended position, an additional column is required for confirmation. in this case, three red columns above the zero line indicate a short position, and three green columns below the zero line indicate a long position.
calculation:
- the ac bar chart is derived from the difference between the 5/34 driving force bar chart and its 5-period simple moving average.
- median price = (high + low) / 2
- ao = sma (median price, 5) - sma (median price, 34)
- ac = ao - sma (ao, 5)
