Description & Settings

Related: ICE (Impulse Confirmation Engine): Advanced Trading System - another powerful expert for MetaTrader 5 traders.

PulseStrike is a tick-driven scalper that does not wait for candle closes. It monitors a short rolling window of price movement, with a default of 4 seconds, to build a live statistical baseline of normal price movement for the current symbol within that window. A new price move is only considered a tradeable burst if it is a genuine outlier against this baseline, defined by a z-score threshold (default 3.0 standard deviations). This approach replaces an earlier version that used a fixed ATR fraction and often resulted in losses across major pairs due to trading on ordinary tick noise.

Two trading modes are available: Momentum mode, which trades with the direction of the burst, and Reversion mode, which trades against it. The Expert Advisor does not assume which mode is best for a given symbol, so testing both is recommended.

Each trade entry incorporates several risk management filters. The take profit distance must be a realistic multiple of the current spread. Both stop loss and take profit levels are scaled using the Average True Range (ATR). Trades are automatically closed if they have not resolved within a specified number of seconds. A daily trade cap and a daily loss limit are in place to halt new entries for the remainder of the day once reached. The EA also verifies if a position has already hit its stop loss or take profit before attempting a manual close, preventing conflicts with the broker's execution.

Only one position is managed at a time. Since most retail MT5 accounts operate in netting mode, where a second order on the same symbol merges with an existing position, this EA is designed to cycle trades quickly. It uses tick-level checks and a short cooldown period to achieve a similar practical effect without issues on netting accounts.

Backtest results are provided below. The settings used for these tests were: All Market Watch symbols, M1 chart, Every tick modeling, Random delay execution, period 2026.01.01 to 2026.09.08, with default inputs (InpZScoreThreshold 3.0, InpBurstWindowSeconds 4, InpTakeProfitATRMult 0.35, InpStopLossATRMult 0.55).

Symbol Profit Trades Profit Factor Expected Payoff Drawdown %

EURUSD 182740.71 5557 1.30 32.88 10.33

AUDUSD 145066.46 6933 1.27 20.92 7.21

USDJPY 98592.56 7240 1.37 13.62 3.50

USDCHF 92761.53 5732 1.32 16.18 5.37

GBPUSD 42170.70 7991 1.25 5.28 54.07

NZDUSD 30031.92 4735 1.16 6.34 42.41

USDCAD 27956.54 3756 1.29 7.44 20.64

The starting balance for all runs was 10000.

Two important considerations regarding these results: Firstly, while GBPUSD and NZDUSD show a positive profit factor, they also exhibit high drawdowns (54% and 42% respectively), indicating potentially volatile equity curves despite a profitable outcome. Secondly, this backtest covers a single period and has not yet been validated on a separate out-of-sample dataset. A strategy that appears profitable on data used for tuning does not guarantee future performance until it demonstrates robustness on unseen data. This version is published with the current results as-is, and updates will follow once out-of-sample testing is complete.

Results on non-forex symbols, such as stocks or exotic pairs, from the same test period are not included here. The trade counts for those instruments were too low to be statistically significant, and this EA was not specifically designed for them.

Key inputs include:
