Description & Settings
Related: Fast Trend Line Momentum and Slow Trend Line Momentum Indicators - another powerful indicator for MetaTrader 5 traders.
FATL (Fast Adaptive Trend Line) is calculated using a low-frequency digital filter (FLF-1).Also recommended: Reference Fast Trend Line - similar indicator with strong performance on MetaTrader 5.
The FLF-1 filter is used for high-frequency noise suppression and reduction of market cycles with very short volatility periods, which can be considered noise. The filter parameters (FC cutoff frequency and attenuation at the rejection band) were calculated using EUR/USD exchange rate spectral estimation.
The low-frequency filters FLF-1 and FLF-2 provide attenuation in the stop band of no less than 40 dB and do not distort the amplitude and phase of entry discontinuous price series in the pass band.
These digital filter properties provide significantly improved noise suppression compared to simple moving averages. This, in turn, sharply reduces the probability of false buy and sell signals.
There are no widely known technical instruments that are analogues to FATL.
It is not a moving average, but an adaptive line estimate of short-term trends.
Unlike moving averages, FATL has no phase delay with regard to current prices.
This indicator is suitable for MT4 and MT5 platforms and was last updated in 2026.
