Description & Settings

AFIRMA (Autoregressive Finite Impulse Response Moving Average) utilizes a digital filter to accurately represent price movement, albeit with a slight time lag.

Also recommended: digital filters - separate - similar indicator with strong performance on MetaTrader 5.

Traditional smoothing functions, like polynomials or trigonometric series (similar to Fourier transforms), offer no lag but can sometimes provide a less precise depiction of price action.
The AFIRMA moving average smooths price movements using a digital filter for all but the most recent candlesticks. The number of these recent candlesticks equals the filter's time lag.
For these latest candlesticks, smoothing is achieved through cubic spline fitting via the least squares method. Continuity of the combined moving average and its first derivative is maintained at the intersection of the two moving averages. This approach results in a smooth moving average that accurately tracks prices without any perceptible time lag.

Input Parameters:

Periods: Sets the low-frequency filter transmission width, calculated as 1/(2*periods).

Taps: Determines the number of delay units in the filter. This value must be an odd number, signifying the number of price points required to calculate the new smoothed MA value.

Window: Selects the filter approximation method:

window=1 - Rectangular window
window=2 - Hanning window
window=3 - Hamming window
window=4 - Blackman window
window=5 - Blackman-Harris window

The initial segment of the MA, calculated using the digital filter, is represented by the blue-violet curve. The subsequent segment, derived from cubic spline fitting, is displayed as the red curve.
